Cambiano, Italy – Pininfarina has long been the design house of choice for such car brands as Maserati, Cadillac, Peugeot, Jaguar, Volvo, Alfa Romeo, MG, Lancia and more often than not Ferrari. Their auto designs are icons of the auto industry and have made many of us drool with envy over such legendary works of art like the Ferrari Enzo, Alfa Romeo Spyder, Maserati Quottroporte and Ferrari Testarossa, just to name a few. So it is to be expected that when Pininfarina introduces a new concept, every design aficionado should take notice. This years Geneva Motor Show is highlighted by Pininfarina’s latest concept, the 4-door/4-seater “Sintesi” (Italian for Synthesis). Speaking on their latest inspiration, design chief-Lowie Vermeersch; “This concept car is the synthesis of our values, of the love for our work and our passion for innovation, of beauty driven by functionality, of sportiness and elegance. However, Sintesi isn’t only the expression of Pininfarina design; it also embraces innovative technologies that allow us to explore new typologies of mobility, active safety and packaging solutions.”
Inside, those “innovative technologies” he speaks of include (the now requisite) hydrogen-fuel technology and the questionably named “Clancast” system. Clancast is basically a system for all cars to easily communicate with each other, relaying traffic patters and minimizing the chances of accidents by human error. Outside, we are treated to such details like; a steeply raked windshield, gaping front air intake, swing up Lamborghini style doors, subtle air vents and all the beautifully flowing lines we come to expect from wizards at Pininfarina and their magical drafting tables.
