Once again, Electrolux pulled out all the stops at this year’s Design Lab finals!! Eight incredibly talented designers gathered with industry leaders and the who’s who of London – presented their designs to a panel of four tough-as-nails judges who’s critiques even made US blush! A whopping 1300 submissions were received this year, but only 3 walked away with the coveted Electrolux Design Lab Star award.
This year’s 3rd place winner is New Zealand’s Roseanne de Bruin, for her Smoobo Blender design! We love this whimsical, interactive take on a common appliance. This Kiwi really knows how to think outside the box!
2nd place went to our favorite Aussie, Enzo Kocak! Not only do we like his name, but his design, the Ribbon multi-purpose cooler/heater is an outstanding object with a unique shape, flexibility, and alluring aesthetic that we’d just as soon wrap around our bodies as we would a bottle of wine. Way to go Enzo!
Drrrrrum-rollllll!!! Taking home the Grand Prize is Slovakian designer Adrian Mankovecky for his incredibly well-thought design, the Portable Spot Cleaner. We gotta say, it wasn’t as surprising to us as it was to Adrian that he won! So why’d he win anyway? Well… the PSC not only draws from the values of Scandinavian design, but is clearly a solution that could very well be on the market tomorrow. Adrian will receive a 6 month paid internship at the Electrolux design studio of his choosing (we heard that he’s quite fond of Australia) AND €5000… not to mention serious bragging rights!!
*Sigh* Alright ya’ll, it’s time to pack our bags and hit the road. But don’t worry!
