The crutch is one of the most simple, time-tested walking aids available, yet Berlin-based design office Werksdesign has found a way to enhance it with smartphone tech! The “e-crutch,” in combination with the application, can help both patients and therapists to enter into dialogue, monitor the recovery progress and make it more effective.
For example, the pressure loads for the hands are measured by a sensor system in the handle. With this data the patient can adjust his use of the walking aid for optimal rehabilitation. This means recovery time is shortened and healing is more successful!
