Ryosuke Harashima knows how to combine the past with the present. Every piece from his STILLIFE collection is making an impression. Two new creations have been added to the series, ready to wow the market.
What Ryosuke Harashima usually does is combine old things to create modern furniture pieces. The STILLIFE collection was introduced in 2019, and it is getting two new designs. Two tables are being added: the ‘A Day in the Harvest’ and the ‘Miss You, Shanghai Blue’.
Designer: Ryosuke Harashima
The two tables take advantage of antique tools and combine them with glass and copper. The glass tops are available in color, while the copper table legs look very elegant with their shiny finish. The traditional item used in Chinese or Japanese culture is transformed into a modern iteration in this collection by the designer. Traditional tools being used in the modern age are not unusual. We have seen similar creations, but Ryosuke Harashima’s STILLIFE series is still very much elegant while retaining the natural beauty of the old tools.
The ‘A Day in the Harvest’ coffee table features a basket used for harvest from decades ago. On the back of the basket is an inscription that says ‘1965’. It can be assumed it was made that year or it was when the previous owner used it for the first time.
The basket comes with a woven bamboo pattern that has been retained up to these days. The winnowing basket underneath the glass table balances with the other sleek and shiny materials. Its original purpose is for sifting rice and grains. Such a basket is common in antique stores in Japan, and the designer made good use of it. The yellow glass top is inspired by the ears of rice we usually see in rice fields, especially during autumn.
Underneath is a black Chinese water bucket that can hold your stuff. The legs are also copper, looking really sleek and classy. The water bucket appears to be hanging underneath the glass top. The bucket doesn’t move because the table legs surround it so you know it is sturdy and durable enough.
