Smartphones have been making magic with their cameras, capturing objects and recording memories with a snap of a finger. The hardware inside these pocket-friendly computers has become so sophisticated and their software so advanced that they can sometimes see things our naked eyes can’t, especially in the dark. Smartphones, however, are still limited by the laws of physics, which means they can only cram so much hardware inside their ultra-thin bodies. If you want even better image quality, you’ll want to pull out a dedicated digital camera, which has plenty of room for more specialized hardware, including ones that let you see in the dark far better than any night vision camera can, and in color, too!

Night vision cameras, like those used for security or wildlife photography, use infrared light to be able to see. While this does work to some extent, it has a few critical disadvantages. For one, some animals can actually see that IR light or at least the camera’s light indicators and get spooked by it. More importantly, however, the images and videos that such cameras produce have your typical greenish or bluish appearance. That might be good enough for military purposes but not for nighttime photography or even security.
DuoVox combines several existing technologies and techniques to create something new and something more useful for all photographers, no matter their needs or lighting situation. For example, it uses an IR filter that blocks infrared light from messing up your photos and captures only near-infrared and visible light. What this means in practice is that you will be able to see in true, vibrant color, no matter how dark the surroundings are, unlike the almost monochromatic output of typical night vision cameras.
The DuoVox Mate Pro also uses a seven-glass lens where the lenses are arranged differently. It takes photos at different resolutions and combines them into a single high-resolution, high-detail photo, similar to how smartphone Night Modes work these days. It also applies noise reduction, color correction, and other processes to improve the quality of the image or video. The result is that you can get a great photo in full color even in lighting as low as 0.0001 lux, which is extremely dark. In fact, the darker the environment, the more impressive its output.
This camera, however, isn’t just for nighttime photography and is full of features that make it a great camera, no matter the situation. It has a 1/1.8-inch sensor capable of 5MP photos and 1080p to 2K video recording, a 16 mm, F/0.9 lens aperture that can take in as much light available, Wi-Fi connectivity to pair with a smartphone, and a 3,000 mAh battery that promises four hours of use. It even has motion detection so that the camera can function as a security camera or night wildlife camera, depending on your mood.
Most cameras are designed to work great under perfect lighting conditions but falter at night. Some cameras see perfectly in the dark but can’t deliver the quality you’d expect from color photos. The DuoVox Mate Pro combines the best worlds into a compact camera that can do almost anything in any circumstance, delivering not only a good daytime shooter but also one of the best true color night vision cameras in the consumer market.
