Every time we come across a new camper trailer, we have something different to talk about. This time with the Lutz Minicamper, it’s probably the size. A traditional-style camper in the body of a little utility trailer, that’s what this tiny caravan is. And by the end of this article, you will be surprised by the way it has been customized to make itself appropriate for two people to sit, cook, dine, and sleep without cramping them up for space.
The tiny trailer is the brainchild of designer Lutz Focke and is based on a single-axle cargo box, measuring 2.5 m long and 1.3m wide, from Hambaur in Germany. A marvelous little thing to check out, “it offers you considerably more space than any camper van,” the makers claim. If you consider how the ultra-compact RV is positioned on the inside, you wouldn’t mind contemplating your choice if a camper van is your focus only because of its compact nature.

Slightly modified on the outside in a white sheen, the boxy trailer really comes to life on the inside. Before we enter in there, through the single large entrance at the back, let’s just get the weight and other details out of the way. The caravan weighs below 750 kg, which makes it towable – even with a small electric car – without a trailer license. Given its size and compact appearance, the trailer can easily fit in the garage at home.
Open the large door in the rear and you see a homely interior backed with a convertible bed, wooden accents, and a kitchen to prepare savory delicacies on the go. In the camper configuration, you can use it for weekend getaways and during the weekdays, reconfigure it for everyday transport. Slide the bed to the right and you can have a full 2.5 m long vacant space to transport your gear, bikes, or even garden waste. And when used as a living quarter, there is so much to explore.
First up is the kitchen module complete with a stainless steel sink and an electric faucet and has a folding workstation extension that extends to place a cooking stove. Underneath is the compartment that houses two 20L canisters for fresh and gray water each. Numerous storage compartments in the tiny kitchen and a concealed shelf over the sitting-sleeping area upfront complete the space for organizing your belongings. The onboard power needs within the Lutz Minicamper are taken care of by two indoor 230V electrical socket when you’re on the offshore power, or a 12V power package if you plan to spend more time outside. Inside is an LED ceiling light while a large glass window and an overhead hatch take care of the natural light and air penetration inside.
The L-shaped seating area in the front is easily convertible into a comfortable 200cm x 131cm sleeping area for two people. The sliding interior table is also a central element in the Minicamper, it is attached to a 2 m long rail on the left wall, whereon it can be slid to create a huge range of possibilities. If you’re interested, you can get a basic trailer for €8,970 ($9,700 approximately) or a fully-packed Minicamper with a kitchen, living cum sleeping area, and electricity will set you back by €15,000 ($16,000).
